Bodies of Work is the first book dedicated to the work of French visual artist Marilou Poncin, also videographer, photographer, painter, and ceramicist. Through a retrospective of over eight years of her artistic production, the artist explores themes such as the representation and allegory of the female body, the artificiality of images, and the inorganic body as a vector of sentimentality in the digital age. Marilou Poncin also provides an interpretation of the relationships between humans and non-anthropomorphic technological objects in a speculative narrative, the subject of her latest video installation, Liquid Love is Full of Ghosts, presented in Arles at the Rencontres de la Photographie as part of the selection for the 2024 Louis Roederer Discovery Award. The book also reveals part of the artist’s creative process: from image collection to sketches and storyboards from her personal archives. Without being exhaustive, Bodies of Work aims to cover the pillar topics structuring Marilou Poncin’s practice, prompting us to reflect on these societal issues, enriched by critical contributions from curators Flora Fettah and Elora Weill-Engerer.
